National Pharama

A Tradition Of Quality

The word “Ayurveda” is composed of two Sanskrit terms,“Ayur” meaning “Life” and “Veda meaning “Knowledge”. Taken together, it means the “Science of Life”.

The origin of Ayurveda dates back to more than two thousand years ago. According to the legend, Ayurvedism was the medical word of Hindu Brahmin or the ancient priests of India. Handed down from generation to generation, some twenty thousand recipes of the herbal remedies were systematically compiled and recorded on palm leaves by the King Serfoji II of south India. Today the great Ayurvedic manuscript is preserved in the Saraswathi Mahal Library of Thanjavur, India, which is now a popular institution of research being frequented by herbalists and medical experts from various parts of the world to study the contribution of traditional medicines.

It later on went on to become a very popular name among all doctors in Tamil Nadu and nearby states which was a very unique one in those days.

In the early 1980s, National Pharma achieved government approval as a major facility to supply free tooth powder under Chief Minister Dr. M.G. Ramachandran’s Tooth Powder Scheme.

Quality and Efficacy:

The company’s commitment to quality was evident as all its products received dual approval from both State and Central Governments. Additionally, National Pharma proudly held a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certificate recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).

VITATONE, LIVERITE, SHARBOTONE, MALVIRONE, and MALVIPLEX - These product names resonated with health professionals and the public alike due to their consistent quality and efficacy. National Pharma’s product range included 15 liquid formulations and 30 capsules, spanning both allopathic and Ayurvedic medicines.

Our Founder Chairman followed a formula of his ancestors to develop his unique products which ensured acceptance at all levels by both among medical professionals and general public. Though the manufacturing facility possessed innovative technologically advanced methodologies, he preserved the active ingredients and contents of the product by using traditional methods of extraction and thereby ensuring efficacy of the active ingredients.

Research and Development (R&D): Ayurveda and Beyond

Research is the backbone of any industry that too especially for Ayurveda, the Indian System of Medicine. Research played a pivotal role in National Pharma’s success, particularly concerning Ayurveda—the Indian System of Medicine. In an era when herbal manufacturing units were scarce and often un-standardized, Dr. Kamal Batcha conducted groundbreaking research in the rural area. His clinical trials assessed the therapeutic efficacy of Indian medicine for common ailments such as liver diseases, urinary tract infections, upper respiratory illnesses, and neurogenic conditions. Despite limited resources and industrial backwardness, Dr. Batcha’s efforts led to quantifying and standardizing the efficacy of each ingredient—an extraordinary achievement.

Quality Assurance: Stringent Measures

Our Founder Chairman Dr. L. Kamal Batcha (LKB) was deeply committed to ensuring the quality and efficacy of his pharmaceutical products. Throughout the manufacturing process, raw materials underwent meticulous selection after rigorous quality checks. They then proceeded through stringent Quality Control (QC) procedures, meeting the high standards set for National Pharma’s products. As a result, the end products were not only effective but also boasted a long shelf life.

Clinical Trial

Our Founder Chairman. As a qualified pharmacist, he conducted drug trials for safety and therapeutic efficacy at various Government Hospitals and the results were published in leading medical journals like ANTISEPTIC.

With his enthusiasm, confidence and passion, he went on to carry out clinical trials of his Ayurvedic Products a very unique and new approach to prove his product’s therapeutic efficacy by modern scientific methods. Around 11 published original clinical trial researches done in various government hospitals under the supervision of leading medical doctors and all of them proved to be very effective. All the products were tested and permitted in five foreign countries, the first of its kind in Small Scale Industry (SSI) in Tamil Nadu in 1990s.

Though it is an SSI unit, the credibility of research is very much obvious as these trials were mainly conducted in Government medical colleges with the sample population selected by clinicians and experts. The selection of the cases for these studies without bias explains its own value. The above works have already been accepted and published in leading medical journals, which is indeed a unique feat as these journals usually publish mainly allopathic research works.

Armed with confidence and in-depth knowledge, the above research activities, he ventured to export these Ayurveda drugs.
No wonder this export activity earned foreign exchange thereby building the nation with goodwill and popularity of Indian products in the foreign soil which has tough standards and regulations for import, which itself is an achievement for an SSI industry from India.

During his venture when herbal manufacturing units were very few and apart and many were not standardized and in the unorganized sector, he ventured and conducted research in this rural area in assessing the therapeutic efficacy of Indian medicine especially for various common ailments like liver diseases, urinary tract infection, upper respiratory illness, neurogenic illness, etc.

These clinical trials paved the way for quantifying and standardizing the efficacy of each type of ingredient which is a unique work considering the cost, time taken for detailed work and limited facilities available at his disposal in this remote industrially backward area, which is being followed till date.
